This is a quick tutorial on two needle tatting techniques, the split ring and the Josephine Chain. It assumes you already have basic needle tatting skills.

  • how to do it with shuttle?

  • @loveisdeath I'm afraid I am not the one to ask. I would suggest checking out Intatters online for help.

  • Hi, I am fairly new to needle tatting, so most of my projects so far are relatively easy and small. I usually work off of the ball; after watching your video, am I right in thinking that I won't be able to do this if split rings are called for in the pattern?

  • @britinpa So sorry for the late reply, but you can still work off the ball with split rings, you just need to pull out extra thread for the needle side. The only times you can't work off the ball is two color tatting and working patterns written for a single shuttle

  • Thanks for the video! What size needle and thread did you use for this particular pattern?

  • @TheLadyTudor It's size 10 crochet cotton with a size 5 needle

  • I just wanted you to know that as a fellow needle tatter, I have followed you for quite awhile and really admire your work. You make beautiful tatted masks and other accessories, and like me, always try to find something new and refreshing to make out of an almost lost art. Thank you for sharing!

  • Спасибо ! Все очень понятно !!!

  • Awesome knot! WOW! These tutorials are so concise, well-shot, and *easy to understand* I'm thrilled to find them :-)

Do you take requests? Would you be able to do a tutorial on beaded tatting? I know you mentioned it in your other video, but it's *always* great to actually see how these things are done. Well thank you for all you've posted! It's made my day!

  • @loveisdeath The Josephine chain is also using the first knot repeated over and over, even in shuttle tatting. As for split rings, you need to learn how to tat with two shuttles (which is very easy). I'm sure you can find many tutorials on youtube about how to tat split rings with shuttles.

  • Your videos are great--very easy to follow! I recently purchased one of your gorgeous necklaces, and your work has inspired me to learn this craft. I can't wait to try the split ring and josephine chain--thank you!!

  • Thank you for your split ring instructions. I would like to know how to do a split ring using to different color threads. I have worked out a way whereby I can tat the second colored thread by keeping the needle threaded with the first thread and then tatting over the top and then pulling it through, but I was wondering whether there was a far simpler way. I have heard mention of using two needles, but I cannot seem to find a video. Can you help please.

  • wow! I have never heard of this before. I love how simple it is! thankyou xxx
