sorry bro. look at the viper and look at the gt-r. that old school snake is a real bad mean machine. that thing is not just a car - it a statement. the 8lt v10 gives some room to add more hp and to kick the shit out of that gt-r thing. but you do not race the viper - people have to see who is driving it. you cruise it. try the gt-r on a Z Corvette and let me know what happened.

Then the US slap import tax on every foreign car to push them upmarket, out of competition with domestic cars. And the US gov. has decided any imported car is a luxury so they can hit them with luxury tax too. All to push them out of competition Therefore stuff like the LandRover 90 - 110 become too expensive to sell there. People buy a US truck instead. They are exempt from taxing, therefore much cheaper. Atleast here we tax them all equal and dont especially try to push US brands out.

CA emissions have become a hindrance rather than an incentive to produce environmental cars. Back when they all went bankrupt, the idea was to bail them out and secure a top world position in hybrid cars. That didnt really happen. So their projected MPG for future cars were wildly optimistic,. As such several perfectly fine cars were suddenly not California legal. Also they made it incredibly hard and costly for foreign brands to get type approved for the US. Up to 2-3 million dollars pr model.

I have to have my cars tested every two years. Unfortunantly we can't get some overseas models sold here because of things like emissions. I would love to own a diesel Defender 90 or 110 but they aren't sold in the U.S. due to crazy emission laws.California is the strictest when it comes to this stuff and other states like to follow them. Damn tree huggers ruin all the fun. Btw, I just got home from watching this guy: /watch?v=ZYpx-0HJMQ4

The big 3 has traditionally advertised in all medias. That way they can punish any unfavourable review by withholding ad money to that publication. Anyone saying a GM is crap, will get ignored by the automaker next time there is a factory event, VIP tickets to car shows, free test cars and all the goodies that comes with being on the big3s good side. Jay Leno talked about this in relation to why it took 6 years to establish TopGear in the US and why he refused to host it.

-and tv shows focusing on innovations, buildquality and modern tech.

Whereas in the US, there has never been such pressure to be competitive. There, criticism is seen as something bad. Something that can only hurt sales and cost jobs. Instead every product is hailed to the skies and anyone disagreeing is a good-for-nothing , anti american red commie.

I honestly believe this exception from criticism and scrutiny did the US car industry a HUGE disfavour and ultimately cost them their industry.

I dont know Japanese stuff but here ALL cars have to regularly be EU approved. Which means you cant get away with keeping your old clunker barely running. If it doesnt pass, out it goes. Imagine that in the US. Government checking your cars. Haha would never happen. This taxing of inefficiency is done by our governments to push automakers into being more competitive and modernising towards a greener future. Otherwise... They wont. Also every country has critical and professional motor press-

Hmm, I didn't know about that. This reminds me of when I lived in Japan. Supposedly when your car becomes 10 years old you have to turn it in for inspection and it's significantly disassembled. Can be quite expensive. I assumed it was just a way to get you to buy a new car, which helps the country(or the bankers). Every year, come bonus time, you would see trash piles of perfectly good electronic items like stereos and tv's. We called them Gomey(meaning thank you) piles.
