Granted Caruso was the Hallmark by which all other tenors were measured and there were several that surpassed him ,especially in this aria where Enrico sounded dreadfully flat , missed coming in on the right tempo and seemed to just drag it along. Listen to Mario Del Monaco and it's a whole different awesome listening experience., MDM just blows you away with his un-comparable vocal dynamics and never went flat .Corelli although not the heroic voice of MDM still with his squillo is amazing.

I'm going to cop it for this comment and i do love Caruso - got the movie, the biographies and everything, but, wait for it...was he really that great or is it all hype? I await your responses.
