  • you problem is the water pump replace it and the timing belt

  • @gofast001 FYI it would be worth it to just replace all your timing belt, idler pulleys, water pump, tensioner and maybe even your harmonic balancer. because once you've replaced them you should be good for like 70k.

  • @gofast001 you will need the "special" mitsubishi tool to remove the harmonic balancer. I made mine. worked great and only cost like 15 bucks instead of 80. good luck man, hope you get it fixed.

  • I would not run the car anymore until you find out what is wrong, these are interference engines. If that belt goes, you will be rebuilding both heads and probably replacing some pistons. I would pull you timing cover off, line up your timing marks, wire tie the belt to the cam pulleys and tie them together to prevent them from moving, and pull your belt off the bottom end. check all of your idlers and tensioner pully and tensioner.

  • Sounds like a failed timing belt tensioner. Mine leaked out all it's fluid and sounded very similar. With no fluid in it, it just hammers back and fourth and it's really hard to tell where the sound is coming from. Try taking off the LF wheel and removing the accessory belts and lower timing cover to get a look at it with the engine running. GOOD LUCK!!!

  • Ask the guys on 3si.org or 3sgto, they'll prob know what's wrong

  • the stock crankshaft pulley has a rubber part that dies over time and use, making a bad sound and hurting your belts. possible answer.
