The bible is the translation of god's word written down by human hands, So it makes sense that some of gods actual words would be lost, and false statements would be made by humans who claimed that god was telling them to stone others, or commit massive genocide when he was indeed doing no such thing. This is a more accurate presumption of how the bible was made, because the crusades were pretty much the same way. A misinterpretation of god's word to the pope ended up killing thousands.
