Update on our greenhouse now that we are well into winter.
There has been snow on the ground for weeks but it just melted this week so I thought it was a good time to show you an update.

  • Just curious. Are you near Chatham, Ontario?

  • @MushroomPatch Yes we are. We are in Windsor. -Randy

  • id make that potato box to a worm bin its a perfect size

  • @MajorRager76 good thought actually. we were thinking about using it as a regular compost bin but it is rather small. a worm bin is an idea. I'll have to look into how I can make that box work as a worm bin. Thanks ~Amanda

  • Thanks for the up date, I would love to see you guy post more often.

I'm injoying my weather down here in Southern California, I think I will take the rain we are getting and past on the snow!

    Thanks again!

  • @aerdna16 well Arizona and Nevada have both received snow lately sooooo don't jinx yourself LOL! ~Amanda

  • I'm in London, Ontario.

  • My un heated green house in towanda , pa 18848.. is full of stuff growing.. even fava beans started to grow.

  • I wrapped pe film around my hoops. and then heat seal the plastic glazing to the hoops using a cloths iron and aluminum foil. You can see my youtubes on the subject. josephdupont garden

  • you need to have plastic bottles of water to freeze . as long as you have un frozen water you should be in good shape . At night throw an insulative tarp over your green house. it will vastly reduce your heat loss. As for compost. don't use valuable growing space with compost. . You could bury a compost barrel and have a feed tube sticking out of the barrel above the soil . I heat seal my plastic to plastic wrapped around the hoops. I use aluminum foil between iron and plastic.

  • Dig deep holes where you walk and put barrels down in the wholes with grating.. This will allow the cold air to sink down and displace warmer air.

  • What you can try is, get some barrels paint them black and fill them with water stack them up on one side. The sun heats them up during the day, and it releases it during the night cheap solution. There is an unheated greenhouse in Winnipeg, that hit minus 40 and the place was 18 deg. inside at night, It's possible with some fancy designs to get get them working unheated.

  • This resembles about 1/20 of Canada's weather. Here in November, when it snows it stays till about april.

  • Thank-you for posting your experiences. :)

  • definitely not Alberta how about a green house inside a green house dam last winter sucked

  • make a small rocket stove heater
