Video showing how I repaired a Philips CD-i 220 console unit. For the repair, needed a rubber band and a knife (to lift up the CD disc holder in the drive unit).

  • Ok I wanna mod my gameboy advance sp, so that the screen is transparent but still plays the game how can I do that???? Please reply back to me

  • You can't, the screen itself cannot be transparent and if you could, the games would look bad as you can image.

  • Great vid. The tray on my CDi 210 doesn't work right. If you press eject, it opens a fraction but then you have to pull it to get it moving again. Could this be due to a rubber belt stretching?

  • Most probably is, sounds like it.

  • Really useful video, quite a common issue as well so should help loads of people fix there 220 myself included

  • Thanks. A couple of people on forums have said they had had similar issues, probably not surprising as old consoles like this one will have similar inherent problems that show themselves up after time.

One tip someone mentioned - to make the rubber band on the original drive unit back into shape, he suggested putting the band into boiling water to shrink it; if it works, great, if not, no issue; small rubber bands from stationery shops are good enough, although won't long each.

  • @MODDEDbyBACTERIA I think he meant the upper half of the handheld, I don't think he meant to type screen.

  • @madmedia370 Just have it so there is nothing behind the screen and you can see right through it. It looks awesome but almost impossible to play. I did this before and it looked pretty cool but impractical.

  • I dont really care of how it would look with a transparent screen i just wanna atempt to try it, can u help me please?

  • This was from picking up experience on other systems, and using logic to solve the problem. A lot of modding is done by relating to things done on other systems before and experimenting.
