@egyptianminor See, our ears don't lie, I've just confirmed what my ears had told me regarding this tune: an interview that KR did w/ the Berklee S of M in 2006 , where he declares his admiration for the music of both Brazilian greats; Toninho Horta and Milton Nascimento.

Same line-up as on "The Enemies of Energy", and released on a CD from 2000, so it must have been recorded in 1996 - like "The Enemies...", right?

Awesome.I say the harmony/melody sounds influenced by Toninho Horta and Milton Nascimento; two prominent Brazilian composers who have had a strong influence on the Pat Metheny Group's music, so I have a feeling Kurt is hip to both of them too, plus I can totally imagine lyrics in Portuguese over this tune.
