In the fascist technocracy formerly known as the "United States of America," you as a 'Citizen' essentially have no 'rights.' Dying of cancer? You become an unwitting guinea pig for their experimentation - and whatever millions/billions of $$ in profits they can make from YOUR body parts/cells - you and your family will see not a penny of it. How would you feel if there were nearly 11,000 patents based upon your mother's cells - and the first knowledge that you had of it was when 'they' came knocking to see if they could take more tissue samples from you and your siblings?
The NSA, along with the rest of the intelligence community in conjunction with law enforcement entities have been spying on you for years wihout your knowledge. They can turn your cell phone into a wiretapping device - like a live microphone - that picks up any sound happening around the phone even when it is powered OFF! They can even listen to your conversations in the car through your OnStar system in your vehicle! Since passage of the Patriot Act they have recorded EVERY landline or cell phone conversation, along with EVERY email and text message sent. You are a prisoner in your own country - unless you become informed and stand up to say "No More!"

With tech like this there is no need for batteries, as there is enough energy now in the ether that it can be tapped into with the properly tuned "wire." Radio tech has come a long way, what we get our hands on is available because those who used to use it already upgraded their tech 10-20 years earlier. What is now Wi-Fi was originally used to keep our enemies from being able to pick up our comms because they found a way to broadcast a signal below the background noise. I <3 my IT degree.

Microwave "background" energy can be used to activate listening tech. An antenna of the proper design will vibrate to audible sound, when the properly tuned radio waves hit the antenna, the vibrations are detected and can be listened to in the reflected radio waves back to the source, or to any device tuned to those frequencies. Also, if you can pick up a signal from space, that object can pick up you just as easily. Imagination is the only limit to the uses of such tech. Who needs to chip us?
