In this tutorial, Dan Worrall explains some of FabFilter Pro-L's advanced metering options in more detail. He discusses inter-sample peaks, and explains how to avoid inter sample clipping with Pro-L. Secondly, Dan shows how to use Pro-L's K-Metering options.
@therealKINDLE You are indeed confusing peak and RMS levels.
The K-Scales that I demonstrate in this video allow peak levels to reach full scale or just below (to provide the dynamics) while keeping RMS levels down at around 20/14/12 dBFS (depending on the scale selected) to avoid participating in the loudness wars.
If you follow the advice in this tutorial using the K14 scale your mixes will have much the same dynamic range as the figures you quote in your first comment. :)

@therealKINDLE Why should I be ashamed of myself? I just stated a fact. It's clear that you don't know the difference between peaking and RMS peaking. This sounds like you just read your first article about the loudness war and you think you know everything about it. Setting the output of the limiter to -0,1 or -0,3 is an industry standard and has nothing to do with the loudness war. RMS peaking has to do with loudness war. Those numbers you wrote look like momentary RMS peaks.

@clarkkentjob What do you mean "peeks"!! It's all constantly wacked up to stupid proportions. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. Here I am sticking up for Art & the conservation of beauty; & all you can do is cavil. Are you saying the Loudness War doesn’t exist? Go & have a look for yourself. I doubt that The Killers would merely peek at just -4.27, or Avril Lavigne at -3.93dBs, or Slipknot at -2.65. Perhaps you like scrambling for the Remote frantically to turn it down, but I don't.

@therealKINDLE Those are most likely RMS peaks. Not the same thing...

-.3? Are you joking? Do you know what John Lennon mastered at? -12.92dB
Pink Floyd -13.96, The Velvet Underground -14.05, Tori Amos -15.23, Norah Jones -15.75, etc. Information courtesy of "Turn Me Up" - Article "The Loudness War Analysed.
