See more videos at http://www.ericsson.com/2020shapingideas/. The smartest generation ever. That is how Don Tapscott, author of Wikinomics, describes today's young people. He claims that adolescents, who have grown up with the Internet, are not only more used to handling digital technology, but their brains are actually different.

  • @jittysan The way we communicate is changing. At first, change is almost always considered as _bad_, but it does not have to be that way. You say that we are isolated and socially dysfunctional; I believe it is just a _different_ and new way of interacting with other people. People used to think that radio and television would be the worst that could ever happen to us, but our generation doesn't know any better. Anyway, in my opinion, the internet has more pros than cons.

  • Jittysan also makes spurious claims about human interaction and self-reflection.

  • @VictoriaQuodRex

Indeed. But I am not sure "tools" and "individuality" were being ignored by anyone?

The question seems to be the "consequences" of humans a group of individuals and their use of a certain tool the "internet".

I am not arguing negative effects are never produced, but that Jittysan makes a false dichotomy with the assertion one must be deluded to think the interaction that we are doing here are not "true interactions", whatever that means? It could be a grammar problem?

  • @Fastlan3 I think you all make good points. I'd like to point out just one thing: the Internet is just a tool. How it's used depends on the individual.

  • Educate.

Search "Early childhood bain development!" place on google.

    HIGHLY recommended or search citisite.

The real stuff about: Education, Creativity and the Mind! Have a nice day.

  • @jittysan

    Show the negative effects?

You simply spat out a bunch of subjective rhetoric.

I know plenty of people completely emerged in a digital world, I may as well be one, and we all look people right in the eyes, communicate very well, even more functional then our non-digital counterparts, and very very social digitally and personally with empathy and deep reflection.

But the digital world can provide a safe haven to those who are naturally socially dysfunctional.

  • @jittysan So true! It has slightly become difficult for humans to gauge technology simply because we are so dependent on it. But involving trend setters a simple product can start a fountain of ideas connecting people in reality and not just virtually. I guess the technology has to be seen as a medium to connect the lost humanity rather than bunch of gadgets to ease one's living.

  • Anyone who thinks they are truly interacting while hiding behind a screen is deluded. We are more isolated and socially dysfunctional than any generation before. Ipods to avoid human contact, texting instead of just knocking on a door and the mental noise that's mistaken for thought in an era of constant "information". More and more young people struggle with eye-contact, showing empathy and the kind of ideas that come with deep reflection and silence.
