According to a study by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, engineering degrees account for four of the five most highly paid majors. Tops are petroleum engineering, chemical engineering, computer engineering and electrical/electronics engineering.

But more and more, I ask myself: What is an engineering degree worth these days?

Engineering is more like an endurance or dedication test. You don't have to be super smart, but you have to be interested enough to absorb a constant stream of information for at least 4 years. Most people don't make it.

Most of the STEM degrees are like that.

The math in a math degree is harder than the math in a physics degree

lol...housing, food, and other living expenses are not a "college expense." You would be paying those expenses if you go to college or not.

Even back in 2005 in China, companies hired trained technicians who knew SolidWorks and ProE and ended up doing "engineering" with them on vast majority of their products.

If you live in USA then thanks to globalization, internet and cost factors your job will be given to someone in Southeast Asia who is willing to do the same job and work for half the price. Furthermore, they won't be in debt nearly as much as graduate students coming out of US universities.

In the US, IQ talk is very popular. However, the reality is, is obtaining a university degree (even in engineering) is more about dedication and willingness to follow procedures and pay money over time.

Engineering is just like any other profession. It may seem fancy on the outside from the perspective of someone who is not an engineer. However, once you actually are an Engineer, you realize that it's just another job or career that is 10-12 hours a day with very high expectations, and your stress may not be worth the pay your getting.

I much rather have lesser salary for a more relaxed job title with more human interaction.
