If you are gonna teach, try saying the CHORD NAME, not ramble notes, which can confuse a novice. Play chords slow, name them, SHOW how the melody fits the chords. You do not explain so novice will easily get it. Many play by ear but know the basic chords. Say the chords then SLOWLY show the RELATIONSHIP to lyric and melody. BTW, NO PRO counts 1, 2,3 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. IT's 1, 2, 3, 4, then 2, 2, 3, 4,- 3, 2,3, 4. Dont' give beginners bad habits. Dancers count to 8 - Musicians count measures,
