A 2002 Supreme Court ruling allowed states to set their own definitions of mental retardation to decide who meets the criteria for execution. Instead of adopting the Supreme Courts accepted clinical standards for mental retardation, Texas has granted heavy leeway to psychologist evaluations. Now one psychologist, George Denkowski, is facing scrutiny over methods that critics say unfairly send mentally retarded prisoners to death row. For more, we go to a report from Renée Feltz for the Texas Observer.

  • That guy was NOT retarded. He was a fucking Mexican, and is stupid. He can't understand English, EVEN HIS MOTHER CAN'T FUCKING SPEAK IT! He was not retarded, just illiterate.

  • @ourtortsystem texas is a shit state. only steers and queers come from Texas, like yourself

  • @rriabdb

fuck you, you're a retard yourself!!!

you should secede from the US and live in some shitty Africa where thugs roam freely and kill everybody.

Texas is the greatest state in all of America.

  • i don't get it: why cant we send retards to death row?

they are RETARDS, the world is better off with out them

retards are the worst criminals, because they cant tell right from wrong

and that guy is feigning retardation to get off the hook, I'm sure of that. he wasn't merciful to the clerk he killed, why should Texas spare him????

    fry him in the chair!!!!

  • Instead of trying to decide if someone's retarded and using that for an excuse...maybe they should try to consider whether the person knew they were doing something wrong. What do you think the chances are, that "Daniel" knew that if he shot that man...it would cause great pain to that man and that man would die? What do you think the chances are that he also knew that it would be wrong to do that? Sorry Daniel...in my court you would be out of gas.

  • "People with mental retardation are able to do a lot of things"

    "Texas governor..." HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
