@allteeth But, if Chevy made a modern day Chevette with 45 mpg it would have to be a hybrid to get that economy and still be fast enough to not be dangerous on the road.
@emforty2 How about the fact we will save our oil reserves longer with mass use of vehicles like this. Your view is too narrow, this car is one pawn on the board. there is also wind, solar, hydrogem energy sources. This car won't save the government jack shit but it is a necessary cost to get the public informed about there options. Personally I'll just buy a 500cc motorcycle and get way better gas mileage and still drive my sports car.
@sossegado01 Taxes+dealer fees add an additional 3-4K depending on which state you live in. So this 41K car is now 43-44 K minus 8K from Govt which puts it to 36. If you decide to get that car on a 6 year term, it comes out to around 600 a month. I'm sorry but the "Average" american doesn't bring in that much extra income. Average american spends $1600 a year on gas. OR 3 car payments from this car..OR if leased 5. Not worth it unless its paid in full or a huge down payment.
@Xuzial Wow you really need to educate yourself before posting something! The car will actually costs $41k, then after $8k from the Goverment it will cost $33k. How will a car jump from $40k to $50k with taxes and dealer fees I have no idea, thats such a stupid comment.
You can actually lease one for $350/month with $2k down, and that is very affordable to the "normal" american.
no HD?

I'll say it once more for effect.
In 1918 Detroit Electric made an electric car that got a range of 50 miles.
This has a range of 35 on electric only.
Combined, the vehicle gets 35-40mpg. In 1977 the Chevy Chevette got 43mpg hwy and 31 city!!!
This car isn't an improvement, just expensive eye candy.
