Jonathan Dimbleby and a panel of experts come together to debate the controversial subject of religion in Britain's schools.

The role of religion in education is a subject rarely out of the headlines. Despite Britain's multi-faith society, schools are still required to include a collective act of worship of a Christian nature, while faith schools and religious academies have raised fears about community cohesion and covert selection.

Claims by some religious educationalists that faith is the best way to teach moral values is challenged by others in schools who believe religious morality to be outdated and dangerous.

Dimbleby is joined by Professor Richard Dawkins, Schools Select Committee chairman Barry Sheerman MP, and a multi-faith studio audience.

The Catholic woman defends the teaching of religious values despite their being democratically shunned by society by saying that just because they didn't prevail as a majority viewpoint, it doesn't mean that they can't be presented alongside those other more representative views. This is true. However, what it does mean is that you can't go on defending those Christian values as being the foundation of the country, as the Bishop does constantly, when the country has voted against them.

@Ellie8969 You see I talk to many people, from different cultures and I notice this. People who believe in "nothing" think there is nothing from the uk, generally think gays nothing wrong with it. However now lets go to another culture, such as Singapore. They believe in "nothing", of course there is Islam, Christian and Hindu however they want a HIV test before you even get a job.You see the different between a nation which as SG compare to UK they PREVENTING risk!
