extended recording of a 645e prime mover in BNSF 6390 idiling at FWWR Hodge yard in ft. worth. recorded from different angles and distances to get the varying sounds of the prime mover. to me this sound gives me such a huge rush when notching up. it brings back many great railfanning memories and memories of my childhood... i plan to record a FWWR local with the sd40-2's at run 8 eventually.... here this recording stands as a historical documentation of a locomotive that ran our country for over 25 years in dominance, and still does, but vanishing quickly

update: see this link to a video of FOUR sd40-2's in run 8 on the fort worth western hauling a 12,000 ton cement train! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ksFc_WsCZE

  • Okay, so I tried to humor TheDepotCat on the Class 50. There's no way it can compete with the good ol' SD40-2. No way in hell! Unfortunately, I live in California and don't see the ol' dogs anymore, but I have one of the largest collections of HO snoots and short noses that I know of.

  • Such an evocative noise. The only thing I can think of that sounds better is a 20-645E3 in a Tunel Motor under load at full throttle.

  • @capnsean520 i agree 100 percent. but i live in PA and sd40s are abundant (i wish). european trains are just sad excuses for trains. an sd40 can beat down a european class classy class 58372642901474856 like my thumb and an ant

  • @a65232 its waiting to leave. idle fuel consumption is real little. that thing can run for a week before burning half a tank

  • nice, but I hoped for some revs

  • cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolllllllllll

  • great video

  • This is my Meca!!

  • @EsPeSD40T Amen brother!

  • @silicon212 wow.

  • @a65232 That thing will use about 4 gallons an hour in its current idle state.

  • @EsPeSD40T I have to agree and disagree. The 645 is an awesome engine to listen to. BUT, the &!) sounds much better. And, is much more fuel efficient.
