Proof Positive the Public Option Will Lead to Single Payer

President Obama has said repeatedly that those who claim that healthcare reform will ultimately lead to a government take-over of the health system are not telling the truth. So are these Democrat ...

when people say public option or when the government talks about the public option it means that tax will increase to support every person.

i am against this public option as i want to save my money and not be forced into a policy i dont want. if i want to see a doctor i will pay for it myself. why should i be forced into a public scheme. i want to pay for my own costs. why should i pay more tax to help a stranger or a lazy uneducated person who can not get a job but spends money on alcohol.

I reluctantly support the Public Option, but the Democrat made a big mistake. They should have argued for Single Payer very early on, and that could have led to a Public Option (that could evolve into a Single Payer). At this point, what they have is something that would actually make the insurance companies stronger. I want private health insurance companies destroyed, and playing patty cake with them will not lead to meaningful healthcare reform.

All this partisan bickering. Congress needs to come together and pass a real health reform bill that actually helps Americans. That is what needs to happen peiod.

While many Democrats want the public option to lead to single payer, this is hardly proof that it will.

The US will get single payer health care ONLY if peoples' experience of the public option are overwhelmingly positive.

People who are afraid of the public option leading to single payer are really just afraid that if people get the public option, they will like it. Conservatives are terrified that Americans might end up actually liking something that right-wingers don't.

And why do you think it will be better, on it's own merits, as an equal competitor, Frayzerm? Do politicians (most of whom have never run a business) have some new business model that insurance professionals don't know about? If so, then why don't they just start a new private insurance business, using these fantastic new methods? Why is gov't needed?

And given your views, I presume you want Communism, given how efficient, kindly, generous, and good for all, government run industries are.

I didn't say it would be better (I don't know if it will) I said people may end up liking it. Republicans hate the fact that some people who support them on every other issue refuse to allow them to take social security away. They're worried that the public option may end up the same way.

Even though social security has a lot of problems, it has become a political third rail because people like it.

Frayzerm,
So you think that people may prefer something that's worse? Why would they prefer it, if it weren't better?

Why do people like social security so much when there are plenty of private retirement savings programs?

Floyd, thanks for the Economics 101 refresher on predatory pricing model. 1st Intelligent Comment For This Video. Question: do you think if we could do away with the HMOs and return to the principles of the Hill-Burton Act the health care industry would right itself so all those who want health insurance could afford it without the use of a public option? Lyndon LaRouche says nix HMOs, return to Hill-Burton AND make a public option available for those who still cannot afford private.

Well stated! In America we should be so lucky to end up with a "single payer" system! Typical of many things, you folks in Canada are light years ahead of much of the thinking in America.
