What you need for a ferrite rod amplifier is a 2 transistor amplifier. If you can't hear the sound of static and hum coming into the sound card, then it won't work. If you use a toilet roll antenna, you need to put iron in it. But having amplification is the main thing when using a small antenna such as that.

you are picking up harmonics of the power transmission. the stronger stuff higher up could be the data rates in the electronic equipment

If you insist on using your VLF receiver (antenna) around your home, or anywere around eletrical interference....you should search online for a LOOP antenna built for VLF freqs..this can TURN away from electrical. Should also use coax as the radio hookup to antenna (should put a braided shield over the coax also-making possible 2 ground connections) BEST to use ANY antenna for VLF....at LEAST 1/2 mile away from ALL powerlines. ALWAYS stay away from manmade interference-is ONLY answer!! Good Luck

Sorry....I guess you did explain your antenna build. I wouldn't expect it to be at end of video (I didn't view the whole video at first). Use an IRON bar in center of "ROLL" *Your feedline is more than likely picking up more signals than your coil (reason is not because of no iron). Your feedline is just a part of the antenna because is not protected from interferance....so you got everything hitting it, including your pc and camera. Needs to be coax.

Thanks for the advice. I was fully aware that the design was seriously flawed but didn't have the resources at the time to make something better.
