@upnortherner It is bizarre. He's not even in the Rolling Stone mag. top 100 list. For some reason, he gets missed out on. I wouldn't say he blows Dylan away (I don't think he would either, Dylan is quite a bit older), and he came a little later than Bruce, but he's definitely pretty close. Some of his studio work is incredible (Paper in Fire, Rural Route, Jim Crow). Ah well, I think he's had a fair bit of glory, regardless!
I agree! Excellent version and he is definitely the best live act I've ever seen. Even though he's finally in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, he still doesn't get his dues by the critics........he doesn't get his picture on the cover of RS every time he releases a new cd like Sprinsteen and Dylan do. Oh well, he blows Springsteen and Dylan away!

Comparing Mellencamp & Springsteen's like apples and oranges. Two completely different and amazing American originals.
"Wow, that's a nice horse... but it doesn't look as good as my bull" WTF??

I've seen him three times. I've also seen Springsteen. Both are something to behold...American music icons.

John seriously needs to release a live DVD. Best live act I've seen.
Beautiful performance of a very depressing song.
