I have to say that (for me) looking for inspiration is almost like trying to conceive a child. The window of opportunity is small as hell and... I'm getting really rusty with my playing *sigh*.

In contrary, Angela Aki once said, "I think inspiration also comes from a conversation you have with your friends, the fight you have with your sister, a break up, a new love, etc. It comes from everywhere. You decide to see it or not, feel it or not. I think inspiration is all around you."

So...does that mean that I just somehow decided not to see/feel it? I dunno.

Anywho, this "piece" is titled Impulse because I was inspired by...Newton's Cradle. So the theme of the piece is like...hmm piano notes that are trying to escape from each other...if that even makes any sense lol. Just...imagine a Newton's Cradle. =)

And other than that, the inspiration also comes after listening to my music professor's recording titled "Panorama". Of course this piece is nothing close to that recording, it's an appreciation. Dr. Woodard, you're the best =).

I kinda messed up the angle here because, well, it was an improv and I wasn't planning on using the upper registers. The video somehow felt a lil out of sync, especially in the parts where the playing is faster, but it was pretty synced and I can't explain what's happening there.

So...thanks for watching.

  • very nice music! i've downloaded most of your piano solos and will be trying to reproduce them!

and i just want to leave a kind advice: you could have scores for any of your works. just plug your piano to pc and use software like Sibelius or Musescore, which is free. i'm also sure that your Roland supports recording to midi-files. once you have midi for your composition, you have a score. you can convert midi to a score or even to an audio with software like Sibelius.

    and thank's for music!

  • Hey, thanks for the advice. The problem with that is the latency that will pretty much mess up your sheet. I've explored that path before using Sibelius, but you technically need an accuracy of a robot for it to transcribe even a readable sheet. And sadly, no, this 300GX isn't capable of recording MIDI on the device.
