  • @berzklans I was lucky. I was born in New York, but my parents came from Latvia and so it was the first language I spoke at home. English came right away and I was speaking both languages at the same time. English outside, Latvian at home. However, after many years, we began speaking a mix of Latvian and English at home. However, for the most part, like American and British rock, I usually cannot understand the words.

  • @KVIKFALD If you still haven't found it, it's latvian folk song "Div' Dūjiņas" There are several versions of it here on youtube.

  • at the beginning of the Latvian Riflemen there is a great marching song, can you tell me what it is and is it on youtube?

  • @runcis182 Nah, not a metal fan :)

  • My five cents of the brief translation of the lyrics.

Author: Aleksandrs Čaks, from poem "Mūžības skartie" ("Touched by the Eternity")

    Riflemen the loudest shout

of the 700 years oppreseed nation

Secretly for long time sharpened knife,

which cut the ropes to breathe

  • In midnights dreadful and blind

At Veisi, Ķekava, Sloka and Smārde,

In Tirelis swamps - pale as the ghosts you marched into death!

    Riflemen proud you boys

    from Latvia`s meadows and forests!

    Day and night at Jugla

Crazy and black like casted in iron

    The German priede - guards

    and its predominance

    You stood against

  • Dry and thursty lips of the dirty streets of Russia You kissed with your blood you for the freedom! Boys from Nordeķi Pines, Zvaigžņu and Rēveles streets! I see at the sky in the night There wehere clods dig up the Moon Regiment after regiment marches in the afterworldly tact Rises shining and diminish again! Those are riflemen - who are no more And who will not be someday again Only their eternal glory Will guard its people like glowing flag.
  • @rrreger I can understand and very well. If you are metal fan you should understand lyrics pretty well.
