Beatles - If I Fell (Original)

"If I Fell" was written by John Lennon but credited to both Lennon and McCartney. The song was used as the B-Side to "And I Love Her" in the U.S. and therefore never initially received the airplay the A-Side received during the summer of 1964. "And I Love Her" went to #7 on the pop charts, and "If I Fell" didn't make the Top 40, but it remains one of the prettiest melodies Lennon ever composed and has since been covered by many including a very nice version in 1966 by the Pozo-Seco Singers

I was playing this song on my reel-to-reel in the barracks in 1968, having recorded it off the Armed Forces Radio Network. As it played a crowd of soldiers gathered around to listen to it. After it was over, one guy said, "That's the most beautiful song I've ever heard! Who did it?" I replied incredulously, "That was the Beatles." His face fell and he said, "You're kidding! Those guys can't sing." Apparently, he was not a fan but he liked them before he heard the name. It's one of my favorites.

@northerndarklight7 I've had similar experiences with various Beatles' songs with people who have a certain preconceived notion of what their music is all about, and yet, what McCartney and Lennon wrote in just a relatively few years will last longer than you or I. If you get a chance have a listen to this same song sung by the Pozo-Seco Singers to get an even better idea of just how beautiful it is. Thanks for the note.

This song is their best. The tight harmonies, the chunky sound of Georges 12 string Rickenbacker and Johns J160E mesmerizing rhythm. Its truly a song for anyone thats in love with someone. I have been listening to this song since the summer of 64 and never tire of it.

like all adults in the mid-60's my parents hated the beatles until they heard this song. I caught my dad playing it on the piano and my mother singing it in the kitchen
