Hundreds of millions of Chinese, Indians, |Asians, South Americans and Africans have been lifted out of dire poverty in the past few decades as their nations have embraced the modern world. Their economies are growing, they are producing highly educated workers, they have rising standards of living, they are getting wealthier and their societies are becoming free and democratic.

Global trade and interdependency has brought to world together and more peaceful.

Do me a favor, go live in some of these places for a year or two and tell me about how much "progress" the west has brought them.

So you want all the countries that were historically colonised by European imperialists to revert back to preindustrial societies? North America, South America, Africa, Asia and Australia should demolish all their factories, cities and towns, rip up all their roads, railways and airport runways and send all the inhabitants to live in the jungles or on the savanahs wearing loincloths and hunting with spears and bows and arrows?

Why not get rid of money and return to bartering?

"Taking advantage"? Come on, let's speak truthfully here. Western corporations are exploiting the people of developing countries.

These countries did pretty well for thousands of years before western capitalists and consumerists came in and took over.

Now, instead of people living on their own land and growing their own food, they are forced to work for someone else to buy someone else's food after their land is stolen from them.

You have the audacity to call this "progress"?

It is no secret that western corporations are taking advantage of lower environmental standards in Third World nations than are enforced in the West which results in pollution and environmental damage.

But that is because of bad government in many Third World nations, with corruption and poor democracy.

BUT those nations need jobs and foreign investment in their economies so their people have enough money to eat.

No it doesn't only benefit the wealthy.

Industry creates employment for people who previously survived in subsistence agriculture. Employment gives workers money to cloth, feed and educate their children. Education gives future generations a chance to start their own businesses and develop their local economy and society benefits.

When people are wealthier and more educated they are in a better position to demand governments enforce better conditions for workers and protect the environment.
