But before they go to the army, and very often to the Sayerets. Some of the best business leaders and university professors were previously in special units.

The difference between Sayeret Matkal and the SAS is that Matkal has much bigger choice group. They can choose soldiers that SAS can't access. In Britain the "best" go to good universities and than to key positions. In Israel the "best" will be pushed to key positions in the military. This is really a question of perspective, if you judge a unit by its skill with weapon maybe SAS will win. But a good special unit has thinking soldiers, that can handle complex non-linear situations, like Matkal.

Sayeret Matkal is based from SAS and so are other special ops units like Delta Force, KSK, GROM, etc. They all got trained by SAS initially and everything from their tactics to the way they train is based from how SAS train. They all specialize in anti/counter-terrorism and they all cross train with each other. They pretty much use the same tactics and the same weapons for their missions so no unit is better than another. You could also say the same with Shayetet 13, SBS, DEVGRU, etc.

I guess you forgot that it was terrorism perpetrated by the Zionist terror groups such as the Irgun and Lehi/Stern Gang that resulted in the British being forced to leave Palestine.
