Bruce Springsteen with Child - KT88 at The Free University "The Center" in Richmond VA on September 20/1969

The quality is not so good, but this is currently the earliest Child/Steel Mill audio in circulation

Copied from Springsteenlyrics: The tune was played in concert up until mid-1970 and a couple of live performances are in circulation. Allegedly a variation of this tune was performed by Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band during a few shows early in The Greetings From Asbury Park NJ tour

  • What is the "Free University" in Richmond, VA? Just curious. Big Bruce fan myself, but only 29, shocked to see that he played in Richmond and interested to see what happened to all of these places.

  • I can't answer that question, it existed in 1969!! Bruce did several shows there

  • Look at that almost Robert Plant hair..lol love it! ... .a big fan

  • You have to wonder if Bruce had released Greetings From Asbury Park in '69 would he have been on the bill at Woodstock? Man I think the world would have exploded from sheer rock awesomeness if Bruce even if it was that early in his career had played Woodstock.

  • @MsBrucejuice Beutiful!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have You Gone Away From Facebook & Why??? Such A Shame! Hugs From Frank! xoxo

  • MsBrucejuice, there are very few hits to these gems and I'm surprised, to me some of the Steel Mill era stuff was every bit as good as his later, more polished work. He never played extended guitar like this after the Bruce Springsteen Band but it's understandable considering the musical path he chose and I suspect he would not have made it quite as big if he did not evolve from this style. However I wish he would break out the Les Paul/Marshall setup once in a while....this stuff was epic.
