  • How the hell does he get that didgeridoo sound at 5:19 and 5:24...?

  • @Cavin8r Think it's the bass string, very loose, vibrating a lot and a bit wildly, maybe hitting wood? Can the guitar professionals chime in?

  • I'd rather listen to Hedges tune his guitar than listen to anything that comes on the radio these days.

  • people talk about guys like andy mckee and justin king, undoubtedly they're great but they would'nt exist if it weren't michael

  • @type3secretion it's because of the CGDGBC tuning. Much lower bass string and much lower melody string

  • @Aetherius88 amen

  • @eastonmackay this guys don't even come close to be Hedges

best guitar player and composer IMO

  • @type3secretion Yep, exactly! The high E string is tuned down to C, that is two steps down, making it very loose, and so, when he pulls it more aggressively and closer to the fret board and not the hole, it vibrates like that. Cool, eh ;)

  • He's holding his thumb over the top a bit to brake it. I miss Michael Hedges.

  • @type3secretion When you hit a guitar's strings with force, they vibrate against the wood of the fretboard and make a kind of rattling sound. Does that help?

  • I love Michael Hedges. He's one of my favorites along with Tommy Emmanuel. I like them because they weren't scared to go outside the box and stretch the boundaries. My favorite Musician is Stevie Wonder and I like him for the same reason.

  • @type3secretion That's pretty much spot on - tuned down to C so that's quite low and the string will get a bit flabby.

  • @type3secretion

almost sounds like he strikes the string with middle finger, then the string vibrates against his thumb. I say this because if it was a vibration from the string being loose, or tuned down, the sound would still resonate like @ 6:30, that's definitely a hammer on and pull off

  • Thank you so very much for posting this video...I can't express in words how much I appreciate the fact that Michael lives on here as well as in your other videos....thanks type3!!! BTW, whatever happened to the version of Watchtower done at the small venue where this one took place...I miss that version bigtime. Take care man!
