  • So beautiful.

  • and actually it's more like.. neo-trad vs neo-trad.

    good rivals ever.

  • eah! the flexibility. electric violin sounds cool when

with effectors. so i'm looking forward the electric

kayagum get born. it'll be much korean.

  • this is like traditional vs neo! like some like violin in electronic sound but not for all~ i think they can choose 21 or 25 depends on the song they play~if they play K-pop, they may choose the 25 one loo~

  • iron 21 has stronger and tougher sound, while the

steel 25 with more delicate western harp-like sound.

look at the players both in the south and north. they

both have some videos on youtube. actually these

instruments are evolving as the music change and

players demand more and more improvements.

till recently, 14 and 17 were played in the north.

25 is said to be more suitable than 21 for playing trad

pieces in the south. but those players of 21 complain

steel 25 sounds cheap and digital-like.

  • oh,i think musical instrument hardly change this days, i don't know they still evolve! that's good, what's the difference btw 21 and 25??more variation??

  • kayagum with 21 iron strings got born in the 1960s

from the traditional one. today's 25 stringed kayagum

played in the south is with steel strings. they're both

equally the neo-trad instruments. iron 21 has its own

sound as the steel 25 has, too. but you're still exactly

correct they were both born from the mother 12 silk

stringed kayagum! i'm just so curious of them all.

also i'm waiting for the next generation get born from

them. can't imagine how it sounds and looks.

  • This instrument was from Korea before two Koreas were divided. So, it is also in South Korea. There are good musicians in both Koreas who can play well this amazing instrument.

  • yes, i heard south Korea has the best teachers for 12 and 25 stringed Gayageum. but those teachers who took education in Pyungyang for 21 stringed aren't. i love both the 25,12 and 21,17 of both the south and north. my own Kayakum is 23 stringed.. so.. it's in just middle..

  • Ayanuhito// We can of course learn how to play Kayagum in South Korea as well. It's a Korean traditional instrument. Just let you know. ( :
