Wassily Kandinsky Russian / German / French expressionist painter of the abstract 1866- 1944
(Vasilii Kandinskii)

Russian born Wassily Kandinsky is considered as the inventor and theorist of abstract painting.
At the age of thirty he deceided to start a new career as an artist, went to Munich and stayed at the Academy of Fine Arts for four years.
The art of Kandinsky established itself rather fast from 1903 on through many exhibitions in Europe.
Together with Paul Klee, Franz Marc, August Macke, Gabriëlle Münter, Alexei von Jawlensky and Alfred Kubin, Wassily started the painters group "Der Blaue Reiter"
During his carrier Kandinsky continuously developed his style.
His early painting were expressive, colorful compositions but figural.
From around 1910 the transition to abstract painting can be recognized.
The figural elements were more and more reduced and finally they disappeared completely.
Like a musician, he titeled his art works impressions, compositions or improvisations.
From around 1920 on, his style became rather geometrical.
The Lenbach galerie or Städtische galerie im Lenbachhaus has an incredible collection of Kandinsky paintings.

Most likely, Kandinsky had synesthesia... here's the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia

Music by Arnold Schönberg (Arnold Schoenberg), Wassily's favorite music to listen while painting

Quote by Kandinsky:
Colour is a power which directly influences the soul.
Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammer, the soul is the strings.
The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul...
(Munich 1911)

  • iam better than kandinski!!

No estudió bellas Artes. Se licenció en Derecho; pero mira por donde. Los pintores que suelen tener más fama póstuma, son autodidactas.
