A Conversation with Bootsy Collins on February 7, @ Berklee Performance Center with poet Thomas Sayers Ellis.
Bootsy tells how James Brown layed THE ONE on him in this short clip.
As we all know, Bootsy was THE BASS PLAYER for James Brown & Parliament-Funkadelic & Bootsy's Rubberband and is solid FUNK.
Video shot by Bill T Miller (BTM) with the built-in lo-fi avi movie feature on a snapshot camera.
Berklee crew did shoot hi-fi pro two camera footage of the complete "conversation" and hopefully someday they will release it all on YouTube and DVD, but until then... here ya go.
Everybody say BOOTSY!
!
Basically, in theoretical terms, the "One" is the downbeat.

Just too much funk. Bootsy is just ooozzzzing with funk!!!! He sounds better than most players even without his bass. His timing, feel, and rhythm are off the chart. Can you imagine what it would be like to have this much of all of the above?

I could listen to Bootsy stomp his feet and snap his fingers while singing a bassline for hours and hours. Soul? Yeah, he's got it in truckloads.
