Sh Mahendra Toke ranks among the finest present-day interpreters of the late Ustad Amir Khan's style, i.e. the Indore Gharana. He is currently a staff artiste at AIR Ahmedabad. He studied under his father Sh D P Toke, a career civil servant, a distinguished vocalist/musicologist, and a close disciple and associate of the Khansahib himself.
Raga Lalit is a melodic mode conventionally presented in the early hours of the morning. This rendition features two compositions set to this Raga, both attributed to Amir Khansahib. The first is a vilambit (slow-tempo) khayal set to the fourteen-beat Jhoomra Taal. It is followed by a faster composition in the sixteen-beat Teentaal cycle.
Wonderful. This Raag can cure your stress.
