Rec Maj 1975 "Huset" Copenhagen

Eva Taylor, born Irene Gibbons, she was a grand lady with a sweet voice, (The Dixie Nightingale). She was married to Clarence Williams and made a lot of records with His Band in the 1920´ s She retired in the 40´s but travelled in Denmark and Sweden 1974 1975 1976. Recorded with Maggie´s Blue Five and Peruna Jazzmen. She also gave a lot of Concerts with them. She died in 1977

The merry bells are ringing to day, but they don´t mean nothing to me.
I hear the children singing and play, so I ´m as blue as I can be
Old Santa Claus forgot my address, that one thing I can plainly see
It may be Christmas to some folks, it´s just December 25th to me.

No money no honey to buy a present for me
Nobody no Toddy to make things plesent for me
Last night my stockings I hung, just like when I was young
But this morning, there was a vacancy
No mingeling no tinkeling , mama makes me (coy)?
No picking, on chicken, pork chop or tender loin.
Soon I ´ll hear the new years time, that just means, more hard times.
There´s much, so hard too loose, I got the Santa Claus Blues, -I mean, I got the Santa Claus Blues

  • @Squarerig No. No. No. No. No. This is is good, sure, but no, no, no.

For one thing, Eva Taylor's voice was at the height of her powers then. For another, Louis Armstrong.

I also find I prefer the pace of the other recording to be more consistently melancholic, more unique.

  • fantastic
