  • Thanks for posting a good version of this! There are wayy too many crap versions on Youtube.

  • Oh yes, I uploaded a crap version too ;)

If you watch a crap version, you will like this version. :o)))

  • Thank you, uh, again, for posting what at least is the original arrangement of the theme song. This is likely the short version as heard on the original soundtrack on LP. The full version (as featured in the movie's opening credits) was not released until the re-release of the entire soundtrack in the early 1990s, complete with some excerpts of dialogue.

  • I agree with your three comments. You are a kindred spirit. :)

I have got the original soundtrack's LP too. IMHO, the LP-version is better, more compact in point of view music composition than CD-version. But of course CD sounds better.

Did you hear my video A.Newman "csejenek"? I have to public in Hungarian language. :o(

  • This vid is popular on Iran

  • One of the most awesome movie themes of all. The story was pretty good, but IDK about whether Spencer Tracy's statement about land being won from primitive Man at the opening. It may or may not be kosher in todays culturally sensative times.

  • I was ten or eleven years old when I saw How The West Was Won in Cinerama. I don't know if anything has overwhelmed me as much since, in my entire life. Except maybe being at a live concert of Tennstedt conducting Mahler's Sixth Symphony in New York.

  • Great theme maybe the third best ever after The Magnificent Seven (2) and The Good, The Bad and the Ugly (1).

  • How the west was won is definitly the best western movie trough all times. I just love it. Shown it to some friends and they too love it.

The scene with the buffalos is magestic!!!! one of the greatset scene ever, considering that they didn´t use computers and blue screens.

The greatest western movie thorugh all times.

  • thank you just ove this show and i still have the original record.James in Australia

  • One of the greatest western themes from that era and ranks up with the Magnificent Seven. Newman and Bernstein were on their own in the composing department for this kind of score and thats saying something as there was a predominance of brilliant composers during that period 1960s with briliant scores for such epics as Spartacus/Alex North and Ben Hur. This era of composing has never been matched and will stand for all time as probably the best period in the history of film.

  • Listening to this makes you grow hair in the chest!

  • This theme is incredible! You can hear the Trains the Civil War, all the things in the movie!
