Lakewood Police Officers Tribute Nov. 29, 2009

Pierce County - Lakewood Police Chief Bret Farrar identified the four slain police officers after an extensive and very difficult notification process Sunday. "All four of our slain officers had been with this department since it started five years ago. Sergeant Mark Renninger and Officers Ronald Owens, Tina Griswold, and Greg Richards were police veterans when they started and all have been outstanding professionals. This is a very difficult time for our families and our officers. The families will have many challenges ahead of them and we ask that their privacy be respected. Please keep our families and Lakewood Police in your prayers."

39-year-old Mark Renninger, pictured top left, had 13 years of law enforcement experience. He is survived by a wife and three children. Officer Greg Richards, pictured top right, 42, had eight years of law enforcement experience. He is survived by a wife and three children. 40-year-old Officer Tina Griswold, pictured bottom left, had 14 years of service in law enforcement. She leaves behind her husband and two children. Officer Ronald Owens, pictured bottom right, age 37, had 12 years of law enforcement experience. He is survived by a former wife and a daughter.

Detective Ed Troyer with the Pierce County Sheriff's Office said one of those officers fought with the gunman and may have wounded him before the officer died just outside the doorway.
