  • Mary's version of this classic Billy Edd Wheeler song is fine indeed. However, the poor quality of the audio detracts from the song. Can anyone re-post this clip with better audio...?

  • @Tony2581 well thanks a bunch mate!... this was recorded from tv to VHS in 1984 as a fan it was played to death, then transferred to computer, then uploaded here ... the fact that it remains at all is a blessing to all us MH fans... She never recorded this in english, but her Welsh language version is available to buy from all good internet outlets!

  • @Tony2581 I've played with the track and enhanced the high frequencies and minimised the hiss. richpat has a unique piece of footage here and I doubt if any other exists in the World. If richpat would like it for reposting all he needs do is give me an email address and I'll send it to him as an MP3

  • @Johnson28316 he's a she and I will send my email address to you and if I can I will use it

  • What I beautiful haunting redition of a poignant song. Thank you! I used to sing and play this after hearing the Judy Collins version, but this one is totally different, and her soprano is so moving.

  • What a great comment.

It was through Mary's Welsh language version of this song that I discovered Judy Collins,

  • I have heard her welsh version of this song at last and its really nice

  • By the way, Mary Hopkin's gorgeous Welsh version of "The Coming of the Roads" is also available on iTunes. However, it is mislabeled "Tyrd Yn Ol (Can't Help Falling in Love)"... I hope she will re-record it someday in English...

  • @richpat -- My comment of 2 weeks ago was certainly not meant to criticize you. I very much appreciate the fact that you posted this rare performance on YouTube and I, of course, did not know of the lengths to which you went to do so... I did not know if this TV clip was readily available and was hoping that someone could post one of better quality because Mary Hopkin's version of "The Coming of the Roads" is perhaps the most beautiful ever sung.

  • An excellent rendition and congratulations for your efforts in saving a rare piece of footage and I love the Harry Secombe intro. We in Oz would not have seen this if it was not for you. Having said that I am surprised that the Judy Collins version has not been uploaded until I did it today.

  • Thanks, that is interesting that you discovered it the other way around. I have listened to this youtube version over and over, it touches a deep chord.
