CSXT 5947 is ready for her close-up! XD She's the first locomotive I ever 'saw'(correctly identified), so I thought I'd pay an homage of sorts with a three-part video chronicle of her. =) Here we see 5947 reversing over a crossing near Taft Yard and stopping midway through, as if to assert her dominance over the automobile. LOL! Some exceptional close-ups in this video, including flashing ditch lights at 00:30! Enjoy!

Also, Part 2! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieVWuJbtknc

ADDENDUM: In October 2010, 5947 was involved in a head-on collision in Georgia. She was not salvageable. She will be missed. :'(

  • its sucks when a company loses a locomotive was it a fatal crash

    :/

  • It sucks, I know! D:

  • @SpeakerPolice *is looking on RR Pic. Archives.* "Okay, let's see, ah, #5947...is....scrapped." AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *faints*

    Man, that's a real shocker. :O

  • You would THINK. I didn't even learn of the accident until a few months ago, when I was looking to see where she was currently working, and found a 'scrapped' notice on RRPArchives. D:

  • @SpeakerPolice Hmm...that's too bad. I'm still quite surprised that I've never heard anyone mention it when I was at Folkston or something. I mean isn't a head-on collision kind of a big deal? I thought it was.

  • Unfortunately, I know nothing about the 5947's demise other than that one crew member was killed, I think. I have no idea what happened to cause the accident, though it was described as a head-on collision. Perhaps a switch was thrown the wrong way, etc.? I do know that the poor girl was in pieces at the wreck scene...

  • @SpeakerPolice Very interesting. Although you're probably right, units that are intact are probably easier to keep in storage than one that is completely destroyed and can't be moved without a big to-do, such as getting a crane! That would probably explain how some of the units sitting at Progressive in Waycross has been there in the facility for years. Do you know of any injuries or details involved in 5947's wreck? Signal malfunction?

  • I went online for advice on how to contact them, but was told by a forum member that because the accident happened almost a year ago, the odds of anything being left of the 5947 are very slim.
