What's on that guy's forehead? Urgh.. made me itch the whole vid.
Also interesting would be to know whether this guy has children himself. Don't think so. I got a daughter and bringing her up is pretty difficult.
Oh and I think evolution should be taught at home as well - get children understand the basic idea from the start.

I went to Catholic high school and my physics teacher once said, "If you think of God as an old man in a robe, with a beard, who lives on the clouds, then of course there is no place for God in science. If, however, you think of God as a manifestation of the fundamental laws that govern the Universe, then He and science aren't so incompatible."
I still ended up an atheist, but it was one of the more reasonable apologetic tactics I've ever heard.

u r awsm!!! agree !

You're right, your view is NOT very sound. You can prove evolution is true (DNA, fosill records), you can'r prove there's a god. Case closed.
-
@themefund You can see truth were you want to see it and that's prolly why religion still exist. Have you ever tought about of many minister or preacher became atheist over the time because they preached from a book full of lies ? I don't belong to the cult of Maher, I'm not a rationalist because I check Real Time with Bill Maher on TV, but because I'm a rationalist I agree with some of is point of view. Saying the human race need spirituality is a wrong statement IMO. Why would we need that ?
-
@Khuntastik Because I think having no faith ignores an instinctual desire to both belong to something larger than ourselves and to express the inner spiritual life that I think exists in all of us.
I think that you've fulfilled you "belong to something larger" by belonging to the cult of Maher, with all it's inflammatory and hateful content. What I think you are ignoring is the spiritual nature of all life.
Of course, nothing I say here will convince you of the truth of that statement.

And that's called cherry picking, and by the look of the cross in the background, you prolly believe some of the christian doctrine, but you can't accept all of it because it just doesn't make any sense ! Well, why don't you just drop it all, because none of that make any sense ? The more I speak with theist the more I think Bill Maher is right, having no faith is a luxury and man, I'm the fuckin richest guy on the whole fuckin planet ! PLEASE GROW A PAIR AND DROP THIS SHIT !!!

Agreed, on the first point.
On the last point, I believe that the public school system has done a lot of good, even if it isn't perfect or even as good as other public systems.
-
@Morkindie We are discussing degree of responsibility I think, because there are things home and society must provide. Here in the US we have emphasized public almost to the exclusion of the role of the parent. It is right/good/nice for govt to try to fill the hole if the parents shirk their responsibility. the problem is that much capital is used and little good is actually done,
The parent lottery (that kids are born into) is so important and too often cruel.
-
Yes, It is my responsibility to ensure that my children are educated, and learn critical thinking skills. Some day they will have much to teach me.
But, if I neglect to teach them, or begin to teach them things that are incorrect, what responsibility does the rest of society have, if any?
Is the rest of the world supposed to idly sit by and say, "Well, it is HIS responsibility, not ours."?
I say, no. We all share a vested interest in educating everyone.
-
@Morkindie I don't disagree with your statement ,but that was not my point. My point was that as a parent , it is YOUR responsibility to make sure they are critical thinkers. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure they are being educated well. The public(or private) school system is a tool you have at your disposal. An important tool but in the end they are your kids and it is your responsibility. other edu systems in the world spend much less with superior results because they understand this
You, have an interesting point of view. I disagree with the idea that we should teach our own children. I love my son, and want to teach him everything, but I know that there are many things that I don't know, and many things that I am wrong about. That is why I demand a competent school system be provided by the government. It is something that I could not possibly do on my own. Also I have no RIGHT to ensure that my son believes the same as me. I am responsible to ensure that he knows MORE.

I'm not entirely advocating Home Schooling (although my children are homeschooled and I do love Home Education)
What I was advocating for here was the "Home Church" I don't think religion should be taught in schools, that should be the responsibility of the parents, whether that be to teach the religion themselves, are just be generally involved in the religious education of their children in earnest, rather than passive observers of the education of their children, religious or otherwise.
