Think of it like a negotiation. If you're negotiating to buy a car or a house or something and you are unwilling to walk away from the deal empty-handed, then you are screwed from the start.
Even if it is the case that this method may result in some women seeing you as a friend, if your attitude is "I MUST score with THIS woman or I have failed," then you have failed.
If your attitude is, "she is attracted to me, fine, if not and sees me as a friend, fine."
THAT will make you attractive.

IMO -- if a guy I was interested in said this too me, I would think: oh, he's not attracted to me and this is his way of letting me know hes not into dating me.
