A "trailer" I edited for a film I'd like to make based on my footage from Afghanistan 2003 (OEF-IV)

  • Hey bud, I use to work at SRTV in D.C. and have a couple options for you.

    1. You could try and make a 30 min/1 hour special for the Pentagon Channel. At least that would give you the credits for other projects.

    2. Have you heard of the G.I. Film Festival? That would get your stuff scene and the event each year gets a lot of media attention. And you'd be able to gauge your work against others doing the same thing.

Love what your getting out of that Xl-1.

  • I've contacted the G.I. Film Festival twice before, and they have not responded either time (I just emailed them again after you mentioned it). I actually have a good list of credits (I've shot for movie theater recruiting ads, commercials etc.) and that's one of the reasons I'm dismayed at the DoD's response, the ability to bridge the gap in "Commercial" quality and that of our actual history should--in my mind--be something want to pursue. This is why I continue to try on my own deployments.

  • you could probably at the very least get discovery or A and E to pick it up. hell...maybe fox news or something.

    id love to see more

  • There seems to be a disconnect somewhere. No one in any decision making capacity is interested in high quality footage from overseas unless there's lots of "action". I haven't been able to figure out if the public at large really doesn't care enough to warrant it, or the the military/or TV producers just think they don't. Discovery/Military channel has turned down the idea twice, even with the latest RED 4K footage I shot.

  • Where you a soldier there just walking about with a camera? or were you allowed to do this specially. I would love to see this on discovery channel. I know that most ppl apart from the lets war with love ppl would watch it and listen to the story that it tells. Dont hate the troops hate the war imo

  • To answer your original questions: Both. I agree that for the most part people would be interested, but it would take a bit of a concerted effort on the Military's part to acquire footage shot specifically with quality aesthetic and resolution in mind, and at this point, I have contacted quite a few people in the DoD and have not found any interest by those who could authorize it.

  • this was really well put together and i would really like to see the full version. i really hope you're able to get your movie onto TV, i think it's really important that people realize that the war in Afghanistan is more than violence and killing.

    good luck with this!

  • When will the full version be availible?

  • have you talked to national geographic or pbs? they may not be the most conservative outlets but they might be the type...i'm just in high school but I'm just wondering
