How to use your iPad as a wireless MIDI controller. Keep steps are 1) make sure your wireless devices (Ipad, computer, etc.) are all connected to the same wireless network, 2) Create a new Network MIDI device using the Audio Midi Setup app in OSX, 3) Making sure in Bonjour name in step 2 is set to your wireless network name and 4) using an app on the iPad (or other iOS device) that can transmit MIDI data (not all of them can).

  • Thanks for the comments. Regarding multiple iPad, I haven't tried that. Maybe set each to a unique MIDI channel?

  • Hi, do you know how to set up multiple iPad apps with the OSX wireless midi? I have set up pianist pro and it works fine, however I have a drum machine program (funk box) which I'd like to also use with wireless midi, toggling back and forth between the two for different recording sessions on my daw. So far, they seem to interfere with each other. Nice directions, btw!

  • @brickisred Hmm, not sure. I've never tried this. Maybe try to assign a dedicated MIDI channel to each device.

  • Thanks for taking the time to do this. Lots of vids showing wireless midi, but this is the only one I could find which actually demonstrates how to do it. Cheers

  • heyy i just updated to 5.0.1 n it dosent work plzz help

  • Thanks so much for noting that the Bonjour name needs to be the wireless name. I was having issues with the Windows version of OS X's MIDI Setup (rtpMIDI) and none of the documentation I found anywhere stated this.

  • Thanks for this, one of the only videos that actually EXPLAINS what to do, not just show. Cheers :)
