Piatra Craiului is the most beautifully prominent mountain ridge in the Carpathians. Its almost vertical limestone cliffs has always been regarded highly, which is reflected in the name of the mountains that translates as the Royal Rock, or King's Stone. A wonderful sequence of limestone arches on the NW wall of the Piatra Craiului, above the spot called LaZaplaz are also known as Deubel holes. Together with huge limestone window La Cerdacul Stanciului rank among the most spectacular works of nature art in the Carpathians. The highest summit, La Om or Piscul Baciului is 2,239m high. A total number of 1170 plant species, which is about 30% of the superior plants in Romania, have been identified in Piatra Craiului National park. This is the only place in the world, where the Piatra Craiului Carnation (Dianthus Callizonus) grows. Over 40% of the 100 mammal's species found in Romania live here. The chamois is typical representative. The mountains are dotted with characteristic refuges, most of which look like halved soccer balls. The most convenient base for the North Ridge area is a place called Plaiul Foii, where a hut has stood for over a century. The whole region has been declared a natural reservation since 1938. In 1990 Piatra Craiului was declared a National Park.

  • Happy new year, how are you?

Very nice film, looks like you've almost completed all the main ranges in the Carpathians.

When are you coming to see the Bucegi?

  • @PeisajeMontane Happy New Year to Romania.

I've seen Bucegi from Piatra, but next year I intend to visit Retezat, Godeanu, Buzau, Ciucas and Rodna Mts.

I am far from completing all the main ranges in the Carpathians - need 20 more years to see all your 71 ranges. So far I visited just 10.

  • @LUKAS82825 Godeanu is a name given in geography schoolbooks, in fact there is only one range - Retezat Mountains, corresponding to Retezat National Park, and that is a good choice for next year.

It is very beautiful, but it resembles mostly to Fagaras and Parang, unlike Bucegi which are something else, unique and very different from the others. What you've seen from the ridge is nothing and compared to PC, belive me, it's 10 times greater :)
