Monty Talks about his new book and TV series.

Monty Don's incredible journey searching for the world's 80 most inspirational gardens.

Accompanies a 10 part x 1 hour BBC2 television series for January 2008 - the most ambitious international gardening series ever undertaken by British television.
The gardens chosen will include recognisable gardens of supreme beauty and interest as well as Monty's personal electic choice.
Monty approaches each garden questioning what makes it special? Why do people garden and is the definition of a garden universal?
Part Palin, part Cruickshank, part Gardener's World, this programme will be the first of its kind and will feature an extraordinary range of places and gardens.

'If I have learned only one thing from my travels around the world it is that no garden is an island. Context is everything.'

Monty Don visits each continent in this landmark series on gardens of the world. We are introduced to the unique floating gardens of the Amazon and the colourful alpine flower meadows of Norway, modest domestic gardens in Havana and Bali, Monet's world-famous Giverny and the Dutch tour-de-force Het Loo, the formal magnificence of Renaissance Italian water gardens, the tropical planting traditions of Thailand, and the intriguing fusion of indigenous and colonial garden cultures in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Each garden is placed in context, horticultural preconceptions are abandoned and Monty is constantly surprised by the unexpected locations where gardens thrive.

A vivid account of travel, adventure, beauty and the pursuit of knowledge.

Monty Don is the main presenter of BBC-TV's Gardener's World. He is one of the UK's most respected gardeners and gardening writers. He has been gardening correspondent for the Observer since 1994 and is at the forefront of the environmental and organic gardening debate.

  • Monty is cool and laid back! A much better presenter than that annoying Titchmarsh.

  • oh my want to job such like hi! :)

  • i just picked up the complete gardener after sprouting my first herbs for a herb garden and have been completely inspired! i read it in three days in complete awe of this guys knowlage. Now its like i am face to face with someone i really respect, all with a few taps of the finger. god i love youtube

  • While i disagree with v6200man i don't understand why people take his opinion as such a slap in the face..

Monty left Gardeners World after suffering a stroke, not as LosAngeleno seems to think after dying. Sure some people didn't like his style in the same way some people don't like Toby Buckland and some people i'm sure didn't like Mr Titchmarsh either. So what? You can't please everybody all of the time.

I however like Monty and his clear love of what he does. He reminds me of my dad.

  • greetings from Greece!

Monty thank u for all the hard work, you are truly inspiring...

I wish all the best, get well soon.xxxx

  • I don't hate him - I just don't like his style of presentation and by the way - he had a minor stroke and he is still alive not dead - get your facts straight!! and don't be so hysterical - silly silly!!

  • @v6200man My God! How can you have such disrespect for the deceased's family. See if you can gather up enough decency and compassion not to exhume the poor man and stone him with heavy rocks! Of all the humanity!....How incredibly cruel. Such venomous hatred!

  • I make no apologies for not liking the man. He was a bankrupt city fashion man who tried his luck at horticulture. I just find him irritating and patronising. Many viewers switched off from "Gardeners World" for the same reason - soon after a new team was put together. Need I say more

  • @v6200man How disgraceful. With just a few choice words you destroy the man and all the effort he has put into his work. I hope you are happy with yourself! You impetuous vagabond!

  • Great series thanks for posting

  • He was best when he was the lead singer of Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark ;-).
