--- Vote YES on Prop 29, on June 5 2012 ---
Prop 29 - The California Cancer Research Act - is a June 2012 ballot initiative projected to save over 104,000 lives, prevent over 225,000 kids from smoking, and generate over $700 million annually for research into cancers and other tobacco-related diseases through a $1 per-pack tax on tobacco products.

The tobacco industry knows Prop 29 will reduce current and future smokers. That's why they're pumping over $20 million into a deceptive statewide advertising campaign, fronted by the same doctor who protected their efforts to kill California's last attempt to change tobacco tax.

The tobacco industry spends over $100M every year on lobbying Sacramento, and tens of millions to defeat citizen-initiatives like Prop 29. That's why California's tobacco tax hasn't been changed since 1998 and at $0.87 per-pack, it's among the lowest in the nation.

Same doctor. Same messengers. Same lies.
Vote YES on Prop 29.

prop 29 wants to impose a additional 1.00 per pack. it says nothing about preventing kids from smoking nor does it help those that have become addicted to tobacco. talk about shoving it right into the 99%s lap

Why the big tobacco hate? It's up to an individual if they are going to smoke or not. Personal responsibility not something you're in favor of? Stop taking the easy way out

Why is it a company's responsibility to "help society"? Who are you to say what gives people enjoyment? And no, I don't smoke.

CRAP IN DA PANTS! If a statistical chart says, "proven to make fewer kids start smoking," that means all we need to know, so let's do it! Remember how in Soviet Russia you couldn't buy 1 quart of milk at a time 'cuz government proved gallon containers are more efficient, and you couldn't buy junk food for "obvious" reasons, and life was very depressing for the people? We don't need "loving government" saving our health!

YEAH, TYPICAL! If you're an M.D., your natural impulse is to think you "simply must" grin a big grin and say, "Let's encourage people not to smoke!" No respect for the poor man who goes like, "MUHH! MUHH! GOTTA SMOKE! Gotta be able to afford it! One of the few things to help make my life bearable!"
