Mexico City is offering cash and computers in exchange for guns to help combat violence. This voluntary disarmament programme comes a month after a 10-year boy was killed by a stray bullet inside a movie theatre. The exchange poin tis in Iztapalapa, a borough of the Mexican capital where youth crime is among the highest. Civilian gun ownership is illegal under Mexican law unless the owner buys the weapon from a special government run shop. The disarmament program has been met with mixed feelings. Al Jazeera's Stefanie Dekker reports.

I think "disarm" is not the same as restrictions, if people are buying guns for criminals or they are not responsible enough to respect the weapon then for the safety of everyone they shouldnt be allowed. In terms of less guns = tyranny, its just not true. vast sections of Europe have gun restrictions and live quite happily with no more tyranny than the US, they are limiting guns to stop manics getting them and shooting up places, thats what this is in response to, its not just out of the blue.

this is why thousands of sheriff's will not comply with it. any time a government gets too powerful, they disarm the public and end up killing millions. 170 million people died last century because they lost their guns to gun control measures. 170 million. america is not excluded from tyranny and mass murder. it can and may happen here. of course i dont think we own a sidewinder missile, since the AR is a fraction of the violence, one can only conclude they are limiting the ability to revolt

the government likes to blame the ar15 and the 30rd magazine as the enemy, most killings are done with 3 rounds or less, so banning a 30rd mag will do nothing. and more were killed by hammers than the ar15. its military looking and common ammo, thats scary. the 2nd was written so the common citizen could match arms with the government in case of totalitarian control.

I agree with background checks to an extent and its un-nessesary to have large clips. I cant say i know what will go on that list, but I hope it'll be sensible. I dont agree that just because they implement rules to try and save peoples lives that it will necessarily lead to complete disarmament or a dictatorship, almost all industrial countries allow guns to an extent, its just about finding a balance between freedom and responsibility, good negotiation is where all parties are dissatisfied.

i agree, but these new laws, how they are written, basically strip privacy rights away and restrict law abiding legal owners from having certain accessories for sportsmen.

your ar15 will be confiscated if you have

    ever smoked pot

    abused alcohol

    gotten a DUI

    been to treatment

seen a therapist for any reason

ever publicly protested against the government

if youve ever been depressed and told a doctor.

i can go on. i believe they are making a list, and theyll eventually weed everyone out.

Sure, plenty we need to do in the UK, but guns wouldn't be my answer..better policing and more accurate/sophisticated attention towards it.

I know there have been false flags, but that kind of talk leads down a rabbit hole that leads nowhere for the most, and of course, conspiracy is now an industry. As for a militia, not a problem..the question is, how do you stop guns slipping the net? Better regulation, not gun bans necessarily..there must be some rational negotiation there i think.

i agree for the most part. but you would be surprised at the level of training the organized militia have. many militiamen are active and former police and military.

i think they scream false flag a lot because the official stories do not match up with the evidence. the reality is rogue elements conduct false flags all the time. its standard op with most governments.

no the UK doesnt have many guns, but their violent crime rate is 1000% higher than the usa. they use knives and bats instead.

highly trained, equipped and organised, thats a real militia. At the moment, are they equipped? certainly. well trained? i doubt even half of them are. organised? not in the least. Quite a few are isolated, mis-educated, apocalyptic preppers on all sorts of legal and illegal highs. How many comments on youtube about the last few massacres being false flags? millions. very, very disturbing, deluded and sick and thats a real shame..not that UK is better, but at least they dont have loads of guns

the "gun nuts" are going to trigger this. im pro constitution, the 2nd is part of that. the term "well regulated militia" means "highly trained and equipped". every state has a militia, these arent rednecks and hill billies. most are knowledgeable and skilled craftsmen and business men. no we have no more rights than the uk. because our real masters are one in the same. i dont think its paranoia. i honestly think its fear. too many dictatorships have emerged by this same exact course of events.

Right. For one, no-one is saying take away all the guns. Second, do you really think u have more freedom than in the UK? Sorry but thats utter rubbish, u know that the US just passed a law to detain anyone indefinitely without charge? so ur guns aren't working are they? "well regulated militia" thats the 2nd amendment, not "grab what u can!" i doubt the guns will ever help because u are not organised, and the guns nuts never will be because they're paranoid and volatile. sorry
