Official promotional video for Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before.
The Smiths' song, written by the usual combination of Morrissey and Johnny Marr, came out on the group's 1987 album Strangeways, Here We Come.
The song was originally supposed to be released as a single and a music video was filmed, featuring scenes of the group-iconic Salford Lads Club and surrounding areas being bicycled through by the lads and friends. Because of a reference to "plan a mass murder" in one lyric it was banned from airplay by the BBC because of the then recent Hungerford massacre, so the band decided not to release it in the UK, however it was released in various other regions including North America, Europe, Australasia and Japan [1].

I've listened to this song at least 10 times in a row now (no joke). I may have heard it before but I don't want it to stop. It's not even their best song but it's just perfect.

Erggh really? Why do you think we would want to hear your life story? "an oft repeated phrase of my Dad's" hahah its funny coz you think you sound smart speaking like that.

Nice video, simple to the point,no hot chicks with new wave hair or midgits running around that have nothing to do with the song

This song reminds me of my Dad and the events surrounding my parents divorce, which occured in the late eighties. The line 'who said I lied?' in particular used to to be an oft repeated phrase of my Dad's (especially when he was lying) as well as being 'way layed' for various exaggerated to completely unexplained reasons. When I first heard this song I was amazed how well Morrissey captures a certain kind of liar. Very bittersweet for me but evocative and a great song.
