Dir: Quincy Perkins
During an interview in 2002 with two Cuban brothers, director Quincy Perkins asked why they would risk their lives and jump into a small raft to cross the treacherous 90 miles from Cuba to Key West. In their response they sited the disaster of 9/11 and spoke of the men who jumped from the World Trade Centers while it was burning. When asked the connection between escaping Cuba and jumping out of the towers, one brother responded, "Refugees are like those men...they may be jumping to their death...but there is only fire behind them."
This short is inspired by that interview.
