what is your favorite pipe smoking scene from the movies? responses can include what movie, what the scene was about, if the pipe smoking was a background thing or if the pipe smoking really stole the scene.

My favorite off the top of my head is the Calabash scene from Inglorious Bastards in the French farmer's kitchen.

  • all of these are excellent. i've got some movie watching to do... As expected, Sherlock Holmes is on the list. i've not seen as many of those as i should have. I did start reading the books though (for free now :-) ) on my kindle....

  • I recently watched killer elite and the character meier played by Aden Young smoked what looked like a peterson irish made army pipe. He was the technical guy and so the pipe suited his character.

  • @annekelive haven't seen the movie, but i'll check to see if i can watch it on netflix (streaming). i love the old peterson army mounts, classy look. also, great videos, just went through and watched a handful - nice camera!

  • i bet someone already said this but...in the film "For a few dollars more" with clint eastwood, when lee van cleef comes off the train and starts lookin around the town..i think its really cool. even if his pipe is bright yellow!

  • Love Sherlock played by Jeremy Brett when thinking with his long churchwarden types - so cool. Nice one Mark

  • I love the pipe smoking in Sherlock holmes. Just recently also Cuba Gooding Jr smoking a pipe in Red tails i did like also. Also and old movie Mona lisa smiles there is a young really good looking person that is marrying one of the girls and he smokes a pipe at the dinner table a few times. Not sure what his name is. sorry.

  • "A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to".

Find me any better than that.

  • I'd have to say it is a three way tie for me between that Inglourious Basterds scene (love the juxtaposition between the small pipe of the farmer and the officers large one), the scene in Shutter Island where Daniels is talking to the doctor after his partner disappears and the doctor is lighting his pipe and all the smoke it produces and the first RDJ Sherlock Holmes where Holmes is having the jail house exchange with Backwell. Love the pipe scenes in both the recent Holmes films.
