In case anyone is wondering about how to read the speed display, well, here's the explanation: there are three readouts on the console. The one on the left is the Track Speed/Manual limit, the center display is the Regulated/CBTC/ATO Limit, and the one on the right obviously displays current speed. When trains are on manual, the operator can accelerate the train up to the manual limit. But since the ATO limit tends to usually be lower than the manual limit, this is not recommended (operator usually stays within 5-10 mph of the ATO limit) because the majority of WMATA trains are under ATO control most of the time. In both cases, there is a speed governer that kicks in and reduces the speed to two miles under the limit if the train goes over the limit. This is indicated by a beeping noise in the cab and a sudden jerk in the train speed.
PLEASE note that this particular train is on ATO and is not accelerating at full capacity. Max acceleration is 3.0 MPHPS up to about 40 MPH (That is pretty good! Too bad New York City Subways don't have that capability).
Maximum limit I have seen is 75 MPH for both Manual and ATO on Blue Line from Morgen BLVD to Largo (in that direction only). It's probably just as fast on the outer regions of the Red Line too, but sadly, I didn't get to go that far.
i do explain in the vid description, albiet a little messy though. lol

@FanRailer You may not believe me, but every now and then I encounter experience of people who claim that these trains can do 70, rare but I would;nt be surprised. Many of the compenants in these trains are similar to ones found within BART.

@saveus444 oh don't worry, there's no question these trains can do slightly over 70, next time i go back, i'm going to take video out the fast suburbian sections of the red, orange and blue lines to see if i can actually catch a set going that fast. In fact, the section that is limited at 75 on the blue line in the description, iirc, the train hit 65-67... and on BART, fastest i've seen is 71.
