Council Member Mathieu Eugene delivered a moving speech during Martin Luther King Day at Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, New York on Monday, January 16, 2012. Councilmember Eugene took the opportunity to awards students and faculty members for their outstanding achievements. The event was marked by performances, presentation of certificates to different groups of students, namely Academy for college preparation & Career Exploration, High School for Youth and Community Development, Academy of Hospitality and Tourism, Science, Technology & Research Early College High School, High School for Services & Learning. There was also a special recognition of the Erasmus Hall Football Team.
Mrs. Mechelle Brunson welcomes the audience. There was a performance by the group Ebone Roots Dance/Drum Theater. Music Education Prof. James Rouse performed on piano "Lift Every Voice & Sing" and the national anthem. Other presentations by Career Zone, Mrs. Nicola Anderson and Ms. Marlene Ickowicz, Project Coordinator from Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office of Adult Education.
