St-Germain-des-Prés was originally a little market town formed around the abbey of St. Germain. Ultimately, it came to be known as a center of intellectualism; the Café de Flore and the Deux Magots were popular hangouts for such minds as Vian, Sartre, and Simone de Beauvoir.

  • I live here, and it's not all it's cracked up to be, lots of frustrated aggressive people and little to make up for it. The info given above says it all: Anything mildly interesting was over 50 years ago, all that remains are monuments to the past.

  • Love this video. Adore Paris. The people, the culture, the food, the architecture, the small cafes, the jazzz, the opera and the fact that people do as they please and nobody tells them what to do.

Its what anybody cares to make of it. Let people be free and see Paris through their eyes, its their holiday and their Paris. Its a wonderful, breathtaking exciting city. Always love and missed when I leave. May live there someday. Vive la differance.

  • I LOVE Paris!!!

  • Quote: St-Germain-des-Prés was originally a little market town.

Most cities, are founded in that manner.

Growers take their goods to any place where hungry customers might be; an intersection of two roads is usually the hotspot.

Then real estate agents come along and swell everything up.

    Cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • This piano piece is written by C. Debussy, called " Bruyeres"
